Grand Staircase–Escalante National Monument

100_8578This is another area of federal lands in Utah that are even less known than Capitol Reef – and the land mass is the size of the state of Delaware.  We followed a bit of the perimeter of the Park on the Scenic Byway – Highway 12.  We drove about 50 miles south from Torrey through Boulder and on to the Escalante River.  There are mountains, sandstone cliffs, canyons, unique rock formations and some serious grades on the road.

  1. I'm sure you have already been there, but if not, put Kanab on your list if you like the old cowboy movies. Most of them were made in Kanab. Great film history and beautiful area to explore.

  2. We have done one quick trip so far to Kanab. Was expecting a small old dusty place. Quite surprised.
